By Jennifer McDaniel

With more communities across Kansas offering free meals this summer, children who went without something to eat just a few years ago have more opportunities to get the nutrition they may have been missing.

Czech Fest to honor Robinsons

By LINDA MOWERY-DENNING

WILSON — As owners of the Wilson World, Marlin and Louanna Robinson recorded the happenings of the town they called home for more than 50 years.

Now, more than a year after their deaths, the couple will play a significant role in the preservation of this Czech community’s history. Their home — with some of Marlin’s printing equipment still in the basement — has been purchased by the Wilson Community Foundation for use as the Wilson Heritage Museum. The garage will provide more convenient storage for the city’s two public transportation vans and supplies used at the town’s annual After-Harvest Czech Festival.

By Mark McCoy

The 2017 Ellsworth County wheat harvest is crawling to a start as area farmers hope for hot, windy and dry days to get the grain in the bin.

“One of the major concerns we are seeing is the stalks aren’t ready to cut,” said Dwight Elmore, general manager of the Ellsworth Coop. “The combines have to work harder to cut through the straw.”
