Robert Elmore Hulse (1926-2019)

Robert Elmore Hulse, 92, passed away May 7, 2019 in Marquette, Kan. He was born Oct. 7, 1926 in Marquette to Cleophas and Vella (Roney) Hulse.
Robert married Ruth Vopat in St. Louis, Mo. on June 12, 1949. He was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County where he was a postal carrier and a farmer and stockman. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ellsworth.
Robert served his county in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174 and Ellsworth VFW Post 6485. He also served as the 6th District Commander for the VFW from 1986-1987.

  Eugene “Gene” Papa Peterman, Sr., 79, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 in Ellsworth. He was born March 27, 1940 in Lincoln County to Benjamin and Rosaline (Panzer) Peterman.

Alan 'Oopie' Marez (1943-2019)

Alan ‘Oopie’ Marez, 75, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at his home in Ellsworth. He was born Nov. 12, 1943 in Kanopolis to Louis Marez and Charlotte Hester LaBarr Marez.
Alan was a long time resident of Ellsworth where he married Gloria Lyne on Aug. 9, 1969. He retired from the Ellsworth County Highway Department where he had worked since 1972. He also owned Marez’s small engines in Ellsworth. Alan was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174.
Alan is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Ellsworth; son, Tobi Marez (Tavia) of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Trichia Andreson of Ellsworth; brother, Gerald Marez (Paulette) of Phillipsburg; sisters, Anita Phelps (Alan) of Brookville and Sheryl Kay Luppen (Kevin) of Alden, Iowa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Robert.

Francis J. 'Bud' Soukup (1926-2019)

Francis J. ‘Bud’ Soukup, 92, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Ellsworth. He was born April 24, 1926 in Ellsworth County to Louis and Lydia (Urbanek) Soukup.
Francis was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County where he married Phyllis Sheridan on Oct. 25, 1947. He was a farmer and stockman in the Ash Creek Township and member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Ellsworth.
Francis served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Hopping. He was a life member of the Ellsworth VFW Post 6485.
Francis is survived by his sons, Roy J. Soukup (Carol) of Ellsworth and Stephen J. Soukup (Kathy) of Ellsworth; daughters, Fran Reiter (Brian) of Beaver Dam, Wis. and Nancy Johnson of Ellsworth; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Woody of Beverly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis in 1992; son-in-law, Dale Johnson; and brothers, Bernard and Marion Soukup.

Rick J. Harper (1952-2019)

Rick J. Harper, 67, passed away March 20, 2019. He was born Feb. 6, 1952 in Salina, Kan. to Harland and Marcelyn (Davis) Harper.
Rick married Kim Lindburg in Lindsborg, Kan. on April 24, 1982. He was a Deputy Sheriff for Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was a sports enthusiast, bowled for many years, enjoyed cheering for the KSU Wildcats and Kansas City Royals, and loved fishing with his fishing buddy, Ken.
Rick attended Central Christian College in McPherson where he was pitcher for the Tiger baseball team.
Rick is survived by his wife, Kim Harper of Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Larry Pucket of McPherson; sister-in-law, Daytha Lindburg of Lindsborg; niece, Becky Bornhoft (Dan) of Gilbert, Ariz.; niece, Shelly Marsh (Kevin) of Kansas City, Mo.; niece, RaDonna Friesen of Aurora, Colo.; and his beloved dog and cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vicki Pucket.

Ann A. Paull (1928-2019)

Former Ellsworth resident, Ann A. Paull, 90, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, at her home in Long Beach, Calif. She was born Sept. 7, 1928 to Frank Reichel, Sr. and Agnes (Bicek) Reichel.
Ann married Donald Paull on Sept. 9, 1948. She and Don moved to Long Beach in 1955.  
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; brother, Frank Jr; and sister, Lilian Reichel Grubb.  
Ann is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Talley (Andy); grandchildren, Matthew Talley (Krista) and Megan Talley; and sister, Thresa Reichel Strong (Dwain).  
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at Ellsworth Cemetery, West Douglas Ave.

Sandra M. 'Sandy' Larson (1955-2019)

Sandra M. ‘Sandy’ Larsen, 64, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in Ellsworth. She was born April 2, 1955 in Marion to Leland and Carolyn (Smith) Chizek.
A longtime resident of Ellsworth County, Sandy was a CNA at Ellsworth County Medical Center. She married James R. Larsen in Ellsworth on Oct. 19, 1984.
Sandy is survived by her sons, Luke Larsen (Desiree Bushell) of Wilson and Adam Larsen of Ellsworth; daughter, Gracie Frederking (Sheldon) of Wilson; grandchildren, Kylee and Bo; sister, Connie Brown of Wichita; and brothers, Terry Chizek of Marion, Galen Chizek of Canton, John Chizek of Council Grove, and Gene Chizek of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James.
The memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at First Baptist Church, Wilson. A family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Bobby B. 'Shorty' Boulineau (1932-2019)

Bobby B. “Shorty” Boulineau, 86, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at his home in Wrens, Ga. He was born June 15, 1932 to William S. and Mozelle (Humphrey) Boulineau.
A native of Jefferson County, Ga., Bobby was a 1949 graduate of Louisville Academy. He served three years in the Army National Guard Infantry and after 20 years of additional service, retired from the United States Air Force. Bobby married Essie Irene Cleaver on Aug. 30, 1963 in Salina. She preceded him in death in 2006
Bobby is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dixon Wood Boulineau of Wrens, Ga.; sons, Stephen M. Boulineau of Oklahoma and William Robert ‘Bobby’ Boulineau (Sandra K.) of Ellsworth; and grandson, Michael Boulineau of Oklahoma.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with inurnment following at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1–2 p.m. prior to the service.

Mary Bernadette Paulo (1946-2019)

Mary Bernadette Paulo, 72, passed away April 13, 2019 in Ellsworth. She was born Nov. 18, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pa. to William and Mary (McAvoy) Paulo.
Mary is survived by her step-brother, Charles Fulford of Killeen, Texas; step-brother, Robyn K. Fulford of Florida; and step-sister, Debra A. Fulford of Salina.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Fulford; step-father, Edwin C. Fulford, Jr.; and step-brothers, Chester Fulford and Edwin Fulford III.
Memorial service is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, at the Good Samaritan Society Chapel, Ellsworth.

Alan Duckwall Wilson (1931-2019)

Alan Duckwall Wilson, 87, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., passed away Monday, April 8, 2019 in Mill Vista Lodge at Wind Crest, Highlands Ranch.
He was born July 16, 1931 in Salina, Kan. to Francis Lesher and Vesta Duckwall Wilson. He married Marilyn Metz Wilson who preceded him in death. He then married Dian Heacock Wilson on June 29, 1991 in Breckenridge, Colo. She survives.
Al graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1953 with a degree in Business Administration. While at KSU, he was in the Air Force ROTC program. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant USAF upon graduation. He received his pilot wings at Laredo AFB. In 1954, after completing Advanced Flying Training at Nellis AFB, he was chosen to be one of the first Air Training Officers (ATO) at the interim site of the US Air Force Academy at Lowry AFB.
