William 'Bill' Edward Roth (1934-2018)

William ‘Bill’ Edward Roth, 84, of Salina, Kan., passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018.
Bill was born in Holyrood, Kan. Nov. 7, 1934, a son of the late Hazel (Becker) and William Andrew Roth.
He worked as a soil scientist for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service for 40 years. Throughout that time he provided service in Dodge City, Kinsley, Larned, and Salina. His work even took him to Parkersburg, W.Va.; Lincoln, Neb.; and Washington D.C.  His many years of service made him to be known as the “best soil scientist in Kansas.”
Bill married Deniece (Kohls) Sept. 2, 1956. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Amy Swann (Larry), of Charleston, W.Va. and Sara Rowe (Merle), of Abilene; a son, Thomas Roth (Terri) of Clay Center; sisters, Shirley Colby of Melborne, Fla., Mary Jeffrey of Marion, and Elizabeth Adams of Newton; and a brother, Robert Roth of Great Bend.

Beulah Margaret Janssen (1913-2018)

Beulah Margaret Janssen passed from this life on Nov. 1, 2018 at age 105 at the Care Haven Home-Fontana House in Overland Park, Kan. She was born Feb. 14, 1913 on the family farm near Covert, Kan. to Albert and Minnie (Mauck) Montgomery. She had four sisters, Pansy, Gladys, Alberta, and Neva Lee and two brothers, Leslie and Eldon.
She married Eldo H. Janssen of Garber, Okla. in 1934. They had two children, Robert Janssen (Puyallup, Wash.) and Carolyn (Gary) Beauchamp (Prairie Village, Kan.). They were blessed with three granddaughters, Leanne Janssen-Carpenter (Rick), Andrea Kristoff (Gregory), and Shawndra Turner and six great-grandchildren.
Beulah and Eldo moved around in the early years together before settling in Holyrood, Kan. where they resided for over 50 years. Eldo passed away in 2002 and Beulah continued in her home until she was 98, moving to the Overland Park community in 2011.

Julian 'Ralph' Burrell (1947-2018)

Julian “Ralph” Burrell, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 in Ellsworth. He was born April 13, 1947 in Ellsworth.
Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 174, VFW Post 6485, and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church all of Ellsworth.
Ralph was a longtime resident of the Kanopolis and Ellsworth areas. He retired as a vacuum operator at North American Salt in Lyons and had previously worked on the dock at Graves Truck Line.

Tommy 'Tom' Renard (1951-2018)

Tommy “Tom” Renard, 67, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at his home in Ellsworth.
He was born April 15, 1951 in Ellsworth to James and Eleanor (Fear) Renard. Tom was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth, where he married Karin Bergin on Sept. 12, 1981. He retired from Oneok after 39 years as a mechanic and project manager. Tom served in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1977 and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174 and Sons of American Legion. He was also a member of the Ellsworth Masonic Lodge 146 and the First Presbyterian Church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Karin of Ellsworth; son, Tyler Renard (Lindsey) of Ellsworth; daughter, Tisha Choitz (Michael) of Ellsworth; son, TJ Renard (Tessa Dolezal) of Kanopolis; grandchildren, Bergin, Willie, Piper, Larkin, Stevie, Hollin, and Zoey; and sister, Sheila King of Claremore, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Tomlinson.
Cremation has taken place.

Darrell D. Ehrlich (1936-2018)

Darrell D. Ehrlich passed away Oct. 22, 2018, at the Via Christi Villages in Wichita, Kan. at the age of 81.
He was born Dec. 28, 1936 to Julius and Eunice (Steinle) Ehrlich in Hoisington, Kan. Darrell married Anne Podlena Oct. 25, 1975. He adopted her five children: Christina, Richard, David, Laura, and Jane; and had four of his own: Randy, Wendell, Kelly, and Shelly.
Darrell grew up and attended school in Claflin, Kan. He was a driller in the oilfields before he began trucking. He loved trucking and was able to work until he was 79. Darrell was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson. He loved telling stories, Christmas, and black and white westerns.

John H. Tanton, Jr. (1928-2018)

John H. Tanton Jr., 89, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Downing and Lahey Mortuary West Chapel.
The service is at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Asbury Church.
John was born Oct. 24, 1928 in Ellsworth, Kan. to John and Roxy (Curtis) Tanton. He served in the Army from February, 1951 to February 1953. He owned a successful construction company and worked in Ellsworth until he retired. He and his wife moved to Wichita to be near family in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Max Tanton.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. (Smith); daughter, Stephanie (Dean) Jones; daughter, Heather Sykes; son, Patrick (Lanitha) Tanton; daughter, Rebecca (Dan) Walter; and 11 grandkids.

Dolores Jane Mason (1929-2018)

Dolores Jane Mason, 89, passed away Oct. 21, 2018 at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born May 31, 1929, at Ellsworth, to Walter and Lilly (Cohls) Schultz. She married Johnnie Mason, Jr., Jan. 4, 1948, at Ellsworth. He died Feb. 15, 1975.
Coming from Salina in 1968, Dolores was a Great Bend resident. Dolores worked for CKMC in many different departments, eventually retiring as a PBX Operator. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was an Argonne Rebels Bugle Corp “Mom”.

Charles W. 'Chuck' Allen (1940-2018)

Charles W. “Chuck” Allen, 78, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at his home in Effingham.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with Pastor Carroll Lewis, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to time of service Thursday at the funeral home with an Elks service to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Effingham Elks Lodge 1016 Handicapped Children’s Auction and will be accepted at the funeral home.  
Chuck was born Jan. 14, 1940 in Wathena, Kan., the son of Francis L. and Rosa L. (Juhl) Allen. He married Jean Faires on June 5, 1960 and she survives.

Dr. Wayne K. 'Doc' Wallert (1938-2018)

Dr. Wayne K. “Doc” Wallert, 80, passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 in Ellsworth. He was born March 14, 1938 in Luray to Edwin and Violet (Parson) Wallert.
Doc served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174. He was also a member of the Abdallah Shriners of Overland Park, past president of the Ellsworth Kiwanis, and a member of the Unity on the Plaza Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Doc was a Doctor of Chiropractic having recently celebrated his 50th year in practice, many of which were at his practice, Ellsworth Chiropractic Clinic. He was a graduate of the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Overland Park and a member of their alumni association. Doc married Eva Bell in Olathe on Dec. 17, 1981. She survives him.

Roy Dean Novotny (1943-2018)

Roy Dean Novotny, 75, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 in St. John. He was born April 2, 1943 in Ellsworth to Wenslow and Marie (Voss) Novotny.
Roy served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 185 in Bishop, Texas. After 26 years of service, Roy retired from the Navy. He then worked as a yard foreman for A&R Builders Mart.
Roy is survived by his son, Troy Novotny of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Tanya Gibbons of Summerville, S.C.; sisters, Betty Holmes, Marjorie Reed, and Dorothy Eisiminger all of Hutchinson; two grandchildren; 14 nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Wright; six brothers, Jim, Bill, Alfred, Richard, Jerry, and Dale; and a nephew.
Graveside service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holyrood.
