Kenneth Conrad

Kenneth Conrad, 83, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 in Ellsworth. He was born Jan. 2, 1932 in Torrington, Wyo. to Reinhold and Ethel (Shull) Conrad.

Kenneth was a retired electronics technician working many years in radio and other media. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth.

Kenneth married Margaret H. Soukup in Ellsworth. She survives him. He is also survived by close friends, Greg and Cynthia Bender of Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation is from 1-6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16 at Parsons Funeral Home with family present at 6 p.m. Vigil and rosary service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral mass is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth with burial following.

Jimmy W. Payne

Jimmy W. Payne, 80, was born on June 11, 1935 in Texarkana, Texas to Oscar E. and Clara Payne. Mr. Payne passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015 in Tomball, Texas.  

He was a long time resident of Bossier City, La. where he and his wife remained after he retired from a 20 year Air Force career.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar E. and Clara Payne and his wife of 58 years, Marj.

He leaves behind two children, Harold E. (Eddie) Payne and his wife Nancy of Tomball, and Jerald W. (Jerry) Payne and his wife Trish of Normal, Ill.; along with two grandchildren, Shelley Stout and Sarah Payne, and one great-grandchild, Logan Stout as well as step-grandchildren Niki Podlinsek Howell of Mattoon, Ill. and Brett Podlinsek of Madison, Wis..

Funeral services for Jimmy will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at Buckeye Cemetery, Ellsworth County Kan.

Robert A. Paull (1945-2015)

  Robert A. Paull, 70, passed away Nov. 9, 2015 in Abilene, Kan.
  He was born Nov. 5, 1945 in Ellsworth, Kan. to Velma Claire (Svoboda) and Allen David Paull. Robert was a staff photographer at the Eisenhower Library in Abilene. He was a passionate musician, playing many brass instruments. He played with the Salina Symphony, Abilene Municipal, Kansas Brigade, and Bethany College bands. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and attended the St. Andrews Catholic Church, Abilene.
  Robert is survived by his wife, Pamela Paull of Wichita; daughters, Bobbi of Wichita and Sandi of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; son, Brian of Abilene; grandchildren, Shane, Cody, Jordan, Peyten, David, Brandi and Kaylynn; and sisters, Peggy Block of Felton, Calif., Pam Zouzas of Salina, and Janet Paull of Abilene.
  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bryan Dean Rohn

     Bryan Dean Rohn, 54, Wamego, Kan., passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at his home. Bryan was born Oct. 1, 1961, in Goodland, Kan. to Eldon and Eleanor (Gfeller) Rohn. He worked for USDA Rural Development as a loan specialist for 32 years. He was a member of the Wamego First United Methodist Church, Little Apple Investment Club, National Association of Credit Specialist at USDA, and the Wamego Country Club.
     Bryan loved being active outside. He enjoyed farming with his father-in-law and brother-in-laws, golfing and will be remembered as a “hands on” man. He was known for building things and even refinished houses. Bryan was an avid bowler on the Thursday night league and played “old man basketball” at the middle school. He was also part of a Sunday night poker group that donated winnings to families in need.  Bryan also loved to ride his Harley, travel, spend time with family and friends, go to Sprint car races and enjoyed NASCAR.

Merle Dean Ingemanson, 84, of Marquette, passed away Nov. 2, 2015.

He was born April 1, 1931, the son of Terrance and Faye (Wise) Ingemanson in Marquette, Kan.

On Oct. 12, 1975, Merle was united in marriage to Georgie Berg in Marquette.

Norwin C. Kohls (1940-2015)

Mr. Kohls

  Norwin C. Kohls, 75 of Cottonwood, Ariz., passed away Oct. 13, 2015, at home.
  He was born May 11, 1940 in Lincoln County, Kan. to Selma and Reinhard Kohls. He attended Ellsworth High School and graduated from Fort Hays State College with a B.A. in Mathematics and Science. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict.
  Through his service he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Valor, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elda Pistora and Lois Seitz,; and brother, Orville Kohls.   
  Norwin was ex-husband to Joyce Marsh and father to Kimberly Ann Uecker and Jody Lare White; brother to Della Billings (Marvin) of Topeka, Kan., Leoria Kohls of Wichita, Kan., Deniece (Bill) Roth of Lindsborg, Kan., Nina Borgstader of Ellsworth, Kan., and Rolland Kohls of Jacksonville, Fla.

Blanche Rose (Jiricek) Woodmansee (1923-2015)


  Blanche Rose (Jiricek) Woodmansee, 92, passed away Oct. 29, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellsworth.
  She was born March 2, 1923 in Ellsworth County to Anna (Krizek) and Carl Urbanek. She married Stephen Jiricek in Ellsworth Jan. 1, 1940. She married Harvey Woodmansee in Ellsworth June 2, 1989.
  Blanche was a member of Daughters of Isabellas in Wilson, VFW Auxiliary in Ellsworth, and the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Altar Society, Ellsworth. She was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County and a homemaker and farm wife.
  Blanche is survived by her daughter, Carole Boor of Claflin; grandchildren, Stephen Boor of Sylvan Grove, Connie Boor of Hoisington, Mark Boor of Claflin, Christopher Boor of Olmitz, and Patrick (Lori) Boor of Larned; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandsons.

Marilyn Joyce Carder

  Marilyn Joyce Carder of Hoxie died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015.
  She was born in Hoxie to Al and Judy (Karnes) Weeks. She married Ross E. Carder at the First Presbyterian Church, Hoxie. He survives.
  Other survivors include: her mother, Judy Weeks, of Hoxie; a son, Jeremy Carder (Jaclyn) of Hoxie; a daughter, Jennifer Dardis (Aaron) of Sublette; a brother, Dave Weeks (Pam) of Ellsworth; sisters Donna Simpson (Jeff) of Mesa, Ariz., and Debra Shugart (Russ) of Parker, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her father; her father-in-law, Ralph Carder; and her grandparents.
  The funeral was Thursday, Oct. 29, at the First Presbyerian Church, Hoxie. Burial was in Hoxie City Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to the American Arthritis Foundation, in care of the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, P.O. Box 987, Hoxie, Kan. 67740.

Gloria A. Waugh (1944-2015)

  Gloria A. Waugh, 71, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 in Hutchinson, Kan.
  She was born, March 5, 1944, in Waco, Texas.
  Gloria is survived by her children, Michael and Matthew Srader, Jennifer Lopez, and Mary Ann Knezek. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roger.
  Gloria will be buried next to her husband during a private inurnment in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kan.
  A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at The Pines.
  Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, is handling arrangements.

Lorraine M. Phelan

     Lorraine M. Phelan, 95, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2015, in Ellinwood, Kan. She was born Sept. 26, 1920, in rural Ellinwood to Mary (Luebbers) and Andy Robl.
     Lorraine married Virgil Phelan at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood Nov. 11, 1946. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood, St. Mary’s Altar Society and Red Hats. She worked as a secretary for the Holyrood and Quivira Heights Schools.
     Lorraine is survived by her son, Pat Phelan (Barbara) of Meeker, Colo.; daughter, Rita McCarthy of Manhattan; son, Tom Phelan of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Dennis Phelan (Jacque) of Holyrood; son, Mark Phelan of Holyrood; son, John Phelan (Carolyn) of Holyrood; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Rita Robl of Wichita.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; son-in-law, Michael McCarthy; daughter-in-law, Gladys Phelan; and brothers, Orville, Leonard and John Robl.
