District improvements move toward finish line

Improvements at Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School are mostly on track with the new tennis courts expected to be done in time for the start of tennis season. Board members of the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo School District toured the school Monday night, following their regular monthly meeting.

Ladies continue 30 year tradition of spreading cheer to Riverview Estates

The third Tuesday of each month you will find a group of women known as the Cheer Group meeting with residents of Riverview Estates, Marquette. The group of Lindsborg women, consisting of Karen Leaf, Maridene Lundstrom, Doris Swenson, Margaret Eddy and Ave Anderson formed the group after their friend, Nancy Nelson, passed away.

Great Plains Flat Track Series Motorcycle Races

On June 28 the Great Plains Flat Track Series Motorcycle races took place six miles south of Marquette. The races, originally scheduled for May 16, were rescheduled due to wet conditions. John Rawson, who created the track, reported that he sprayed water on the track into the early hours of the morning hoping to cut down on some of the flying dust.

Brockway is new Kansas Czech Queen

 

By Alan Rusch Ellsworth County I-R WILSON — Lara Brockway of Salina was crowned the 2015 Miss Kansas Czech- Slovak Queen Saturday, during the 27th annual pageant conducted as part of the Wilson’s After Harvest Czech Festival. “I feel great,” she said. “I’m really excited to keep doing this for another year.” Brockway was crowned by Sara Vytlacil of Belleville, the 2014 MissKansas Czech-Slovak Queen. During her one-year reign, Brockway hopes to promote the Czech heritage within the younger generation. She also plans to stress the importance of education.

‘Passport to Amazing’ begins Monday

 

By the I-R Staff Ellsworth resident Linda Strella hadn’t planned on participating in the first “Passport to Amazing Ellsworth.” But then she remembered the promotions that took place when she and her husband, John, owned their downtown shoe store. And how disappointedthey were when hardly anyone showed up. Strella quickly changed her mind. “I visited a lot of places,” she said. “It was fun and I did some shopping along the way.” Strella will have an opportunity to repeat her 2014 experience.
