Davis shatters EHS sprint record again

STERLING — Bearcat Kaden Davis — undefeated this season in the 100-meter; 200-meter and 400-meter sprints — broke his own Ellsworth Senior High School 100- meter record with a time of 10.64 at the April 21 track meet at Sterling. Davis won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.93.

Bearcats get win over Minneapolis

The Ellsworth Bearcats got their first win of the season, 8-5, against North Central Activities rival Minneapolis in the opener Friday in Russell. Colton Hower pitched both the opener and nightcap for Ellsworth. Ellsworth jumped to a 3-1 lead by the bottom of the first inning but allowed the Lions to score a unanswered run in the second and two runs in third innings to give Minneapolis a 4-3 lead.

Oilers win Ellsworth tennis meet

The Central Plains Oilers won the Ellsworth Invitational tennis meet April 14 with 70 team points. The Ellsworth varsity, competing as the Ellsworth Red team, placed second with 46. The Ellsworth Black team tied for fifth with Abilene. Eight teams competed. Sterling was slated to play at the tournament, but opted to compete at Buhler, said head Bearcat coach Eric Anderson.

Davis sets new EHS 100-meter record

RUSSELL — Ellsworth’s Kaden Davis broke his own Ellsworth high school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.80 at the April 7 Russell Invitational track meet winning first place in the event. Davis once again swept the sprints, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.89 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.62.

Bearcats looking for a baseball win

The Ellsworth Bearcats dropped a double-header April 1 to North Central Activities rival Beloit losing the opener in five innings by a score of 12-0 and the nightcap by a score of 13-5. David Koralek III pitched the opener for the ‘Cats. The Trojans scored five runs by the top of the scoreless third inning, and then added three runs in the top of the fourth and four runs in the top of the fifth to win the game by run-rule. Colton Hower was the starting pitcher for Ellsworth in the nightcap.

Oilers tie for first

KINSLEY — The Central Plains Oilers boys’ track team tied with Central Prairie League rival St. John-Hudson Friday for first place out of 10 teams with 73 points at the Kinley Invitational track meet in Kinsley. It was a partly cloudy Western Kansas spring day, with temperatures in the low 60-degree mark and a gusty north wind.

Oilers win tennis meet at Hoisington

HOISINGTON — The fifth-ranked 3A-2A- 1A Central Plains Oilers won the Hoisington Invitational boys’ tennis meet March 31 by racking up 28 team points. Hoisington placed second with 12 points; Trego Community placed third with 11 and the Ellsworth Bearcats placed fourth with nine. Rounding out the top five teams ranked by the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association are top-ranked Wichita Collegiate; second-ranked Kansas City Christian; third-ranked Hesston and fourth-ranked Wichita Independent.

Lady ‘Cats win KVA Academic honors

The 2015 Lady Bearcat Volleyball team was recently awarded the Team Academic Award by the Kansas Volleyball Coaches Association. To receive the Team Academic Award, members of the Lady ‘Cat volleyball team achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, during the first semester of the current school year. The award included the grade point averages of all players on the team that competed at the varsity level for the season.
