Bearcats stomp Republic County

The Ellsworth Bearcats punished a good Republic County team, 44-28, Friday at Shanelec Field, in Ellsworth. The Bearcats, who suffered an unexpected change in head coaches following Brent Schneider’s sudden resignation, focused upon the game and under the supervision of interim head coach Grant Wiegers, played a great game of football.

Lady O’s win tourney

The defending 2A champion Lady Oilers volleyball team won the tough Ellsworth Invitational tournament Saturday in Ellsworth. It was the second consecutive year that the Lady O’s have claimed the trophy. The Lady O’s began the day by defeating Sacred Heart by scores of 25-10 and 25-12 in the first match.

Dragon defense makes goal-line stand

WILSON — The Wilson Dragon defense — historically not known for its prowess — executed a 6-inch goal-line stand to get a 30-26 Homecoming football win against Chase Friday, at Wilson. A cold front with a gusty northern wind rolled in as Homecoming activities ensued, dropping the temperatures and forcing fans to scramble for jackets.

Dragons look towards regionals

WILSON — Numbers are up this season for the Wilson Dragon cross country teams, with a total of 11 athletes out for the sport. “We have nine high school kids and one junior high boy out,” said coach Robert Powers, in his second year of coaching the Dragon harriers. “We actually have five boys, so we can possibly compete as a team this season at regionals.
