The Wilson High School Lady Dragons basketball team did a blanket toss fundraiser Jan. 27 between varsity games. The team raised $112.71 to donate to the Ellsworth County Cancer Fund. Charlene Zelenka of Wilson, (white shirt) accepted the funds for the organization.

CLAFLIN — The top-ranked and undefeated 2A Central Plains Oilers beat seventh-ranked 4A Division II Concordia convincingly, 61-47, at the Oilerdome in Claflin.

The top-ranked, undefeated and two-time defending champion 2A Lady Oilers of Central Plains defeated the Lady Panthers 56-28 in a game where the deep Lady O bench played most of the fourth quarter.

CLAFLIN — The top-ranked and undefeated 2A Central Plains Oilers beat fourth-ranked 2A St. John-Hudson, 46-45, in a tight game at the Oilerdome in Claflin.

 

The top-ranked, undefeated and two-time defending champion 2A Lady Oilers of Central Plains defeated the Lady Tigers 58-21.

 

BELOIT — The Trojans beat the Ellsworth Bearcats, 66-38, in Beloit.

OTIS — The top-ranked 2A Central Plains Oilers defeated Otis-Bison 53-34 Feb. 2 in a CPL league game in Otis.

 

The top-ranked, defending two-time 2A State champion Lady Oilers cruised to a 66-36 win over the Lady Cougars in the girls’ game.

Lady O’s win BCC Hilltop Hoops

GREAT BEND — The undefeated, top-ranked and two-time defending champion 2A Lady Oilers won the 2016 Barton Community College Hilltop Hoops Classic girls’ basketball tournament Friday with a 63-51 win over the Word of Life Academy Fire in Great Bend. The Fire, who came into the tournament with an unblemished 8-0 record, is an independent team comprised of three girls from New Zealand, two from South America, one from Tennessee and one from Wichita.

‘Cats drop close game to Southeast of Saline

The Ellsworth Bearcats battled hard, but seventh-ranked Southeast of Saline won Friday’s North Central Activities Association game 62-56 Friday in Ellsworth. The Bearcats fought the Trojans to a 6-6 tie by the end of the first quarter. Southeast of Saline scored 17 points while the ‘Cats made 13 in the second stanza for a 23-19 halftime score in favor of the Trojans.

Bearcat basketball games against Russell cancelled

The Ellsworth versus Russell boys’ and girls’ basketball games scheduled for today (Tuesday, Feb. 2) in Russell have been cancelled.


The games have been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 22 with the girls’ game starting at 6.pm. and the boys’ game at about 7:30 p.m.

HOISINGTON — The young Ellsworth wrestling squad had a good day Friday at the Hoisington Cardinal Classic Wrestling tournament.

 

David Koralek III and Zac Schneider each placed second in their respective weight brackets. Darrel Gustin placed third as did freshman grappler Tyson Hall.
