4-H gives youth opportunities for long-term relationships

A credit card company ran a series of commercials a few years ago that listed the cost of several activities and ended with the related experience as “priceless”. 4-H Youth Development could not function without volunteers. We often think of the county fair as the culmination of 4-H projects and volunteers are certainly visible serving as superintendents, setting up and cleaning up, distributing flyers and much more.

Kratzer earns award

Ellsworth County 4-H member Drew Kratzer was recently awarded the Kansas 4-H Key Award at the county awards banquet in Ellsworth. Drew is a nine-year member of the Trying Tommies 4-H Club, and is the son of Darin Kratzer of Kanopolis and Angel Adams of Burlington.

Students adjust to America

With a combined 11,226 miles behind them to spend their senior year in America studying and enriching their English language skills, seniors Mitsuki Sakuma and Cecilia Raimondi are foreign exchange students at EJSHS. Raimondi is from Milan, Italy, and Sakuma is from Yamanashi, Japan. Raimondi is living with junior Riann Pruitt’s family. She decided to come to America because she wanted to learn English and live the life of an American teenager.

Arlene Rolfs 90th birthday celebration

The family of Arlene Lebsack Rolfs is hosting a 90th birthday celebration from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Celebration Centre, 1145 E. Highway 56 in Lyons.
 
Mrs. Rolfs was born north of Otis to William Lebsack and Marie Hergert. She graduated from Otis High School in 1944. She has taught school in Rice and Ellsworth counties since 1946.

Grandparents of the bride are Jean Ecklund, Herington, Kan., and the late Eugene Ecklund, and Ella Kresky, Salina, Kan. and the late Robert Kresky Jr.

Grandparents of the groom are Earl and Fern Kempke, Ellsworth, Kan., and Laurel Hunsinger, Lawrence, Kan. and the late Claris Hunsinger.
