To earn a first place award at the Kansas State Fair is a special accomplishment for winners. But to win multiple first place awards, you must be doing something right. Wilma (Mattas) Olds, 66, of Wilson has entered into various baking contests since the 1960s.

Serve up a helping of gratitude

Thanksgiving is a holiday that often challenges our nutrition goals, but it may be the healthiest holiday for our mental health, as we benefit from the consequences of giving thanks. Cultivating an “attitude of gratitude” has been linked to better health, more sound sleep, less anxiety and depression, higher longterm satisfaction with life, and kinder behavior toward others.

48 Hours of 4-H

Members and parents of the Trying Tommies 4-H Club participated in the statewide 48 Hours of 4-H Oct. 8 by painting curbs on Main Street in Geneseo. There were 15 members and seven parents helping.

The Traveling 12 Card Club met at Grandma’s Soda Shop at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 with Betty Hunter as hostess. Winning high was Marilyn Soukup, low was Myrene Soukup, and getting traveling was Charlene Stoppel.

If so, you need to be aware that the open enrollment season begins Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. While you may be happy with your current plan, you may want to compare plans to make sure you still have the best plan for you.

FCE members collect items for Family Connections

In observance of Family and Community Education Week, Oct. 9-15, Ellsworth County’s approximately 31 members will collect items for Ellsworth Family Connections, 350 W. 15th St. Family Connections provides economical lodging for families, in particular the wives and children of inmates at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.
