Delvin and Jeanne Haase will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a backyard BBQ and open house starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6 at their farm at 585 10th Rd., Ellsworth. It will be hosted by their children and grandchildren.
They were married Aug. 6, 1966 in Seattle, Wash. and settled in Kansas.
Delvin was born and raised in Ellsworth and is a lifelong farmer and rancher.
Jeanne was born and raised in Seattle and is retired from Precious Pals Preschool as the director, teacher and owner.
Delvin and Jeanne met on a blind date while Delvin was in the army stationed at Fort Lewis Wash. He was discharged in November 1965 and came back to Kansas while she stayed in Washington. The couple corresponded by writing letters to each other every night from November to May, when she traveled to Kansas to meet his family.
