Ellsworth received between 3 and 5 inches of rain early Wednesday, as downtown streets experienced temporary flooding and several highways were closed by high water. Downtown streets were clear by 8 a.m.; however, emergency workers were called to a home near the Smoky Hill River south of town to place sandbags to protect against rising water.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Ellsworth County until 12:15 p.m. All towns within the county were included in the alert.
