Robson declines county attorney job

Susan Hoffman Robson, who will be the only name on the Nov. 8 general election ballot for Ellsworth County attorney, announced this past weekend she will not accept the job if elected. This is the letter Robson sent to local election and Republican party officials and the I-R.

Marquette’s Autumn in the Valley is Oct. 29

Marquette will once again celebrate Autumn in the Valley with a full day of activities Oct. 29. The fun starts at 11 a.m. with the opening of kids’ games and a bouncy house. A $5 wrist band allows children to play and jump until 2 p.m.

Voice from the Holocaust

As a Holocaust survivor, Marion Blumenthal Lazan feels a responsibility to pass the stories of her family and others on to future generations. “This will be the last generation to hear first hand from someone who lived through the Holocaust,” she told dozens of students and staff members Sept. 12 in the Ellinwood High School gymnasium.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

The 6th Annual Pedal Power Tour is now officially in the books. Twenty four riders participated in the 10-, 35-, or 43-mile ride. The morning was clear and cool as the riders assembled for the 10 a.m. start. Winners of the gift cards from Harley’s Bicycles of Hutchinson were Darryl Talbott and Sue McDonald, both of Marquette, and Jemma Loomis of McPherson. A first time rider from Hutchinson commented “a perfect ride, a perfect route, and perfect cookies.”

Officer involved shooting Thursday evening on K-156 Highway

    Update: The Independent-Reporter staff was able to track down Ellsworth County Attorney Joe Shepack Friday morning at the county courthouse. He has to talk to Ellsworth County Sheriff Tracy Ploutz before he releases any information.

Update: Information continues to be sketchy. However, Trooper Ben Gardner of the Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed in a telephone interview Friday morning that KHP troopers responded Thursday evening on K-156 Highway to a report of "a vehicle on fire with other circumstances of concern involving other agencies."
