Koralek places first at Ellsworth tourney

Bearcat David Koralek III won the 138-pound bracket Saturday at the 44th annual Bearcat Invitational wrestling tournament in the Bearcat Lair at Ellsworth. Zac Schneider placed third in the 160-pound weight class and Darrell Gustin placed third wrestling at 182 pounds.

Tuesday’s tales from the hardwood

RUSSELL —  The Bearcats defeated a much improved Russell team 70-39, Tuesday in Russell. The Broncos played a good first half of basketball, but the ‘Cats took over in the third quarter and never looked back.

 

The Lady ‘Cats grabbed an early lead and held on to defeat the Lady Broncos by a score of 42-35.

Former Bearcat named coach of the year

Think long distance running, and think Hugoton cross country. Hugoton cross country means coach Nick Rodriguez. The veteran coach, who took over the program 21 years ago, has had a number of runners place in the state meet and some of his teams have finished in the medal round.

EHS whips Lady Lions

The Lady ‘Cats defeated Minneapolis 44-35 Dec. 13 in Ellsworth. Ellsworth rolled to a 10-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Paige Talbott’s two treys and a bucket and her sister Jaide’s two field goals and charity shots lifted the Lady ‘Cats to a total of 14 points while holding Minneapolis to eight in the second stanza for a 24-12 halftime score.

‘Cats stomp Lions

The Bearcats defeated the Lions of Minneapolis, 54-27, Dec. 13 in Ellsworth. The ‘Cats scored 18 points and held Minneapolis to six in the first quarter and added another 18 points while only allowing the Lions to make two charity shots in the second stanza for a commanding 36-8 halftime tally.
