Lady Oilers take second at State

EMPORIA — The defending 2A champion Lady Oiler volleyball team placed second Saturday at the 2A State volleyball tournament in Emporia. The Lady O’s passed the championship trophy to Heritage Christian of Olathe as the Lady Chargers won the 2016 title in two convincing games, 25-12 and 25-15.

State volleyball and cross country results

EMPORIA --- The Lady Oilers of Central Plains placed second Saturday at the 2A State volleyball tournament in Emporia.

 

The number two-ranked team in the state, the Lady Chargers of Christian Heritage Academy of Olathe, defeated the Lady O’s in two convincing games to claim the 2016 title and dash Central Plains’ dreams of a repeat championship.

EMPORIA --- The defending 2A champion Lady Oilers of Central Plains defeated Wabaunsee, Olathe’s Heritage Christian Academy and Kiowa County to win the “B” pool Friday in the 2A State volleyball tournament at William Allen White Auditorium in Emporia.

Bearcats stomp Lyons in District win

LYONS — The Ellsworth Bearcats whipped Lyons, 41-6, Friday in a 3A District 15 matchup in Lyons. The winless Lions were simply no match for the ‘Cats, who put up 14 points in the first quarter and rolled up 21 points in the second stanza to have a 35-6 halftime lead.

Cross Country regional results

WICHITA --- The Wilson Dragons set a school record by send both harrier teams to the 1A State meet in Wamego.

Aaron Dlabl placed third at the meet on the boys’ side and Kaleigh Hanzlick placed seventh on the girls' side.

Weekend football updates

LYONS --- The Bearcats dismantled Lyons 41-6 Friday, eliminating the Lions from the district 15 3A race. Top-ranked Hoisington clinched the district title with a win over Larned.

 

DOWNS --- The injury-laden Wilson Dragons put one in the “W” column with a 66-40 over the Lakeside Knights, keeping their 8-man Division II, District 5 playoff hope alive by mathematics.

Hoisington escapes the Ellsworth Bearcats

The Ellsworth Bearcats fought top-ranked 3A Hoisington to a 12-12 halftime score, but the Cardinals won the 3A District 15 match up by a score of 39-20, Friday at Shanelec Field in Ellsworth. Both teams are known for explosive offense, but the first half of the game became a game of defense. It was a hard-hitting game of football.

Hipp and Ryan repeat as champs

WICHITA — The undefeated and defending 3A-2A-1A champion doubles team of Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan repeated as the State champions Saturday at the 2016 3A-2A-1A State tournament in Wichita. Central Plains placed fifth at the tournament in team points. Kansas City Christian won the team title. The Ellsworth doubles team of Jessie Graves and Tori Lamb also competed at the tournament, but did not win any points.
