Oilers pluck Eagles

CANTON — Building on its success of previous weeks, the Central Plains Oilers football team defeated the Canton-Galva Eagles, 52-0, Friday in a game that ended after two quarters. Canton-Galva was up for a challenge, as they only had eight players suited-up for the night.

GREAT BEND — The Central Plains Lady Oiler tennis team completed their regular season Oct. 1 when they hosted a meet in Great Bend. 
Keeley Hipp and Janae Ryan led the team, winning all of their matches in the number one doubles division. 
They defeated St. John first by a score of 8-0. In their next match they were victorious over Sterling, again with the score being 8-0. They completed the sweep, with an 8-0 win over an Ellinwood, a team who placed ninth at state last year.
Number one singles player Kaylyn Oberle also had a successful day, placing second. She beat St. John and Lyons with the score being 8-2 in each match. She then downed a quality Ellinwood competitor 8-1, before falling 8-2 to a Sterling player that finished fifth at state a year ago.

WILSON --- The Wilson Dragons were defeated 56-6 in a Homecoming football game by the Chase Kats. The Kats controlled the line of scrimmage for both quarters of the game.

JH Redskins win four in a row

Little River traveled to Herington Sept. 24 for the first match up for the two schools in junior high football. On its first drive, the Redskins pounded the Railers right up the middle and then called for a Graham Stephens bootleg. Stephens cruised 42-yards for the first score of the night.

Bearcats upend Sacred Heart

After a week of fun, spirit and anticipation, the Ellsworth Bearcats got the Homecoming game they were hoping for with an exciting win over the Sacred Heart Knights, 23-14, Friday at Shanelec Field in Ellsworth. Former head coach Gail “Pep” Shanelec was named honorary team co-captain and attended the coin toss with the current Bearcat team captains, donning his well-worn and battle-scarred leather helmet.

Lady Dragons place fourth at Tescott

WILSON — The Lady Dragons of Wilson beat Osborne, but lost to Natoma and arch-rival Sylvan Lucas Sept 15 in a triangular volleyball meet at Wilson.

          Wilson beat Osborne 25-13 and 25-15. Jena Shelton had four ace serves, 26 sets and five digs in the win. Riley Dietz, Ashton Brown and Ashlyn Weinhold made nine kills apiece; Sheyanne Drylie scored eight; Madison Hansen scored four and Ambria Roberson had a dig.

          Natoma beat the Lady Dragons 26-24, 11-25 and 20-25.  Shelton had 13 kills and 41 sets. Brown, Dietz and Hanson scored 15 spikes apiece. Weinhold and Drylie each scored nine.

          The Lady Mustangs defeated Wilson by scores of 26-24 and 25-13.

          Shelton had 12 kills and 24 sets. Brown and Dietz each scored 10 apiece; Hanson had eight; Weinhold scored six and Drylie made seven.
